A superorganism is a group of organized individuals (the bees) that work together to be a single living thing (the colony). Many kinds of ant colonies are superorganisms too! They all have to work together to make the colony successful.

Chore Chart

Superorganisms are interesting in that every single member of a colony has a job to do. Kinda like chores! When everyone does what they’re supposed to do, the colony can thrive.

Worker bee chores are divided into six different jobs, seven if you count the queen. Normally there is only one queen in a colony, so she is very special and she is the mama to all of the bees in a colony; about 60,000! That’s a lot of children!

If you see a bee flying around, quietly watch it. Don’t wave your arms around and don’t try to touch it. If you wait, you may see her doing her chores!

Interested in learning about raising bees?
